Melbourne Victory Football Club wishes to advise that defender, Matthew Kemp, has been sanctioned for what it regards as unacceptable behavior when leaving the pitch, during Saturday night’s loss to the Newcastle Jets.
In line with FFA regulations, the club has fined Matthew an undisclosed amount and he has also been suspended for one match.
Matthew’s actions were disrespectful not only to the club, but also his teammates and every Melbourne Victory member and fan. The 31 year-old said on Tuesday that he regretted his conduct, “I unreservedly apologise for my poor behavior on Saturday night.”
“I’ve been in the game long enough to know that when decision’s on substitutions are made, they are made in the best interests of the team, and my reaction was totally unacceptable,” Kemp said.
“I accept responsibility for what occurred and will cop whatever sanction the club deems appropriate on the chin.”
Melbourne Victory will not make any further comment on the matter.
