Hyundai A-League Champions Brisbane Roar today announced Ange Postecoglou has resigned as Head Coach, effective immediately.
Postecoglou leaves the Brisbane Roar after two-and-a-half years, during which he led the club to unprecedented back-to-back Hyundai A-League Championships, a premiership and consecutive qualification for the AFC Champions League.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the owners, players and football staff of the Brisbane Roar,” Postecoglou said.
“Their commitment and belief has created history for this club.
“I have been very proud to lead such an outstanding group of men, and I wish the club every success in the future.”
Club director Chris Fong paid tribute to Postecoglou’s impact on Brisbane Roar, but emphasised his departure would not derail the club’s determination to become an powerhouse of Australian and Asian football.
“The Brisbane Roar would like to thank Ange for his commitment to the club over the last two and a half years, and the considerable role he has played in its success,” Fong said.
“We respect how difficult this decision was for him and we wish him well in his new endeavours.
“Ange’s departure marks the beginning of a new chapter in the story of the Brisbane Roar, and we are committed to ensuring we have the right people in place to continue the club's legacy with further successes.”
Brisbane Roar will make an announcement regarding the role of Head Coach on Wednesday 25 April.
ANGE POSTECOGLOU STATEMENT
Over the past few weeks there has been speculation about my future as Brisbane Roar Head Coach. I have decided to end my tenure in this position, effective immediately. Obviously this was an extremely difficult decision on my part but I feel that now is the right time for me to seek my next challenge in coaching.
The last 2 and half years I have put everything into leading this club and building a culture that I hoped would represent this city and our code in the best possible way. On Sunday we once again witnessed how this club has become our codes greatest example of how great our game can be.
I will always be grateful to the previous owners Emmanuel Drivas, Emmanuel Korkoras, Claude and Serge Baradel for the opportunity given to me. I would like to thank The Bakrie group for their support and the important stability they give the club moving forward. I am also grateful of the support I received from management and staff during my time at the club.
I would also like to thank the committed sponsors and corporate partners of the club for providing the platform for us to be able to achieve the on field success we have.
At the Grand Final I was humbled by the support I received from the supporters. I have always seen my position as a privileged one and to see the banner and hear the words of encouragement was something that I will keep with me for the rest of my life.
Finally I would like to express my gratitude to the players and football staff. Their commitment and belief has created history for this club. I have been very proud to lead such an outstanding group of men. I wish the club every success in the future.
