Floreat and Balcatta in a six-goal thriller

Written by

Floreat Athena has lost top spot in the Western Australian All Flags State Premier Division after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Balcatta in Sunday’s game at Grindleford Reserve.

Football West is pleased to announce that the venues for this year’s State Cup Final Day, All Flags State League Grand Final Day and Sunday Cup Day have been confirmed.

Floreat Athena continued their lead at the top of the All Flags State Premier Division table after a 7-0 hammering of the Football West National Training Centre at Litis Stadium. “It was a very good response from last week’s cup defeat at Sorrento,” Floreat keeper Brad Eiffe said. “We knew we had to keep a clean sheet but at the same time put a few goals away. It’s so tight at the top that goals could become very vital come the end of the season.
A hat-trick from English striker David Heagney, two from Benny Kovaoio and one each to Mark Walsh and Ludovic Boi gave Floreat the points, keeping them ahead of the chasing pack, heading into the final rounds of the season.

At the other end of the table Armadale secured three vital points after coming from behind to beat Joondalup 3-1 at Alfred Skeet Oval. David Foster had given the visitors the lead with a stunning shot just before half time, but second half goals to Mitch Castrilli, Darren Francis and Dale Wingell moved Lee Bamber’s side clear of the drop zone. “It’s been hard for the lads the last few games, not getting the right result, but today we showed true grit and deserved the three points,” said Armadale midfielder Wilf Dinsdale”

Perth SC’s revival continued when a Liam Boland goal on the half hour gave them a 1-0 win against Inglewood United at The Intiga Stadium. Sorrento’s march up the table continued with a 4-0 win against Bunbury at Percy Doyle Reserve. Three goals in the first 15 minutes put Bunbury to the sword; defender Daryl Platten gave the home side the lead after only seven minutes, before a Johny Mirco brace and another to Jason Mirco gave them a comfortable victory.

In other games Bayswater moved to second on the table after a 1-0 win against Stirling at Frank Drago Reserve, courtesy of a stunning free kick from Gustavo Giro-Marulanda, while Balcatta heaped more misery on Western Knights winning 7-3 at Wauhop Park, with a brace from Boima Karpeh and Daniel Micevski, with singles to David Micevski, Jason Barrera and Ashley Rosindale. The loss keeps the Knights at the foot of the table, while Balcatta’s win moves them closer to a top five spot.
