Top meets bottom in Round 9 of the ACT Women’s Premier League as Belconnen United plays host to Woden Valley at McKellar Park tomorrow. Second placed Monaro Panthers are at the Riverside Stadium once more as they welcome Tuggeranong United whilst Canberra FC plays ANU WFC at Deakin Stadium. The match of the round though is shaping up to be Canberra Olympic v Weston-Molonglo FC at Kaleen Enclosed.

Belconnen United and the AIS kick off the National Premier Leagues: Capital Football Round 12 on Saturday when they meet at McKellar Park. Attention on Sunday switches to O’Connor Enclosed where Canberra Olympic and Monaro Panthers will do battle whilst Canberra FC make the trip to Kambah 2 to take on Tuggeranong United. Woden Valley meanwhile are back at Hawker Football Centre as they take on Canberra City.

Canberra FC closed on Canberra Olympic at the top of the National Premier League after a 3-1 victory over Cooma Tigers at Deakin Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Belconnen United kept in touch with the leaders after their routine 2-0 win over Tuggeranong United at McKellar Park in the opening match of the round whilst Monaro Panthers kept up their great form with a 4-1 defeat of Canberra City. Meanwhile Woden Valley downed the AIS 3-0.

The National Premier League reaches Round 9 with the pick of the four matches the top of the table encounter between Canberra Olympic and Canberra FC at O’Connor Enclosed on Sunday afternoon. Cooma Tigers will be looking to close the gap on the leaders when they welcome Canberra City to Nijong Oval and Belconnen United will also be hoping to pounce on any slip-up as they meet Monaro Panthers at Riverside Stadium. Action is underway on Saturday afternoon as Tuggeranong United meet the AIS at Kambah 2.

Canberra Olympic moved to the top of the National Premier League after eight rounds as Golden Boot contender Mark Shields netted four times in their exhilarating 5-2 victory over Canberra City to send his team above Canberra FC who had the bye. Belconnen United won the Grand Final re-match at McKellar Park, defeating Cooma Tigers 2-0 whilst a stoppage time winner from Mitch Steenbergen handed Woden Valley a 2-1 win over Tuggeranong United. Over at the AIS Grass Fields the Institute proved too strong for Monaro Panthers, winning 3-1.
National Premier Leagues: Capital Football Round 7 – Review

Canberra FC remains top of the National Premier League: Capital Football following their 4-0 defeat of Canberra City in Friday Night Football at Deakin Stadium. Three second half goals completed a comfortable win for FC who returned to winning ways following their Round 6 loss. On Saturday Woden Valley came from behind to win 4-1 at Woden Park against Monaro Panthers despite missing a penalty with the Panthers reduced to ten men late on. On Sunday Canberra Olympic saw off Belconnen United 3-1 whilst the AIS took home their first win of the season, downing Cooma Tigers 2-1 at Nijong Oval.
Belconnen United and Monaro Panthers remain with 100% records at the top of the ACT Women’s Premier League after winning their Round 3 matches on the weekend. Belconnen United saw off Canberra FC 3-1 at Deakin Stadium whilst the Panthers proved too good for Weston-Molonglo FC at the Riverside Stadium winning 3-0. At Kambah a double to Alex Lawrence gave Tuggeranong United a deserved win over Woden Valley whilst the match between Canberra Olympic and ANU WFC was postponed.
Monaro Panthers claimed the 2013 Women’s Federation Cup with a 2-1 penalty shoot-out win over Canberra FC at Hawker Football Centre. Stephanie Coates had the honour of firing the winning penalty in an amazing shoot-out that could have gone either way with players missing at will as Jocelyn Mara and Gill Raymond stood firm. But Coates kept her cool to win the trophy after a fiercely contested 120 minutes.
Canberra FC and Belconnen United is the standout match in the second round of the National Premier Leagues: Capital Football competition this weekend. The old rivals meet at Deakin Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a heavyweight encounter. Canberra Olympic starts the action in Round 2 on Saturday when they meet Tuggeranong United at Hawker Football Centre whilst the other Sunday fixtures see Woden Valley and Cooma Tigers in action for the first time this season. Woden heads to Hawker Football Centre to take on Canberra City with Monaro Panthers providing the opposition for the Tigers at the Riverside Stadium in Queanbeyan.
